Match Players Day

Let me out.............
Di, Me and Rachel

A small field of Ladies out today but a great opportunity to learn about match play and what better way than in a fun team competition. Great to see a couple of our newer Ladies enjoying the chance to play a different format without the pressure of being in a competition.
In the absence of our usual Captains Helen H and Chris P, the honour to lead the teams was left in the very capable hands of Gill S and Carol A.
Just 4 match's starting at midday, 16 Ladies, no rain but a little windy at times.
Great fun playing with Team Captain Carol against Gill and Di and the best result all round with 2 matches each.
Just waiting for a picture of the teams captains to come through.................

Hows this for a tee shot on the first hole of the Academy Course....

Proud mum Rachel and partner Jon (Mr Past It 2011) watched with great delight as daughter Chloe won the coveted 'Nearest The Pin' on the Academy Course during the Midlands Golf Week at Branston

Running commentary below provided by Jon.

Tee Shot hit with a high draw with a 7 iron, ball landing like a butterfly without leaving a mark on the green!! Ball running up to about 3 ft, just stopping short of the pin.

Jon commented that had this been a 'Hole in One' it would have cost him dearly especially as it was only the 3rd time that she had played, however it would have been worth it.

Keep it up Chloe, you're the one to watch.......................

April 22nd - Spondon Trophy

Some post match fun and laughter
The return leg of the first round of the Spondon Trophy and after losing the previous match at Coxmoor by 5 games to 2, nothing less that a 6 - 1 win by Branston Ladies was required.

Some rain and a little sunshine and a great team effort but a 4 - 3 win wasn't enough to secure that place into the next round. Well played to the Coxmoor Ladies and the very best of luck in the next round.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon, maybe in our Ladies Invitation Day in June...........

Captain v Lady Captain

Not too much sunshine but no rain saw the annual dual between the 2 captains and their teams.
With 21 tee times and a total of 84 players and a cold biting wind toward the end of the day, it was a day of fun and enjoyment.
I had a great day, mainly due to my playing partner Barbara K who carried me much of the way around but we just about kept our head above water against the might of Mr Captain and the very powerful Mick M.

Barbara, Me, Coral and Monica having a well earned drink on the 19th

Ladies looked great in a combination of red, white and blue - the men looked great too..........

Many thanks to everyone that played and nice to see some new faces playing in the competitions, especially for the Ladies.

Well done to Sarah and Trudy and look forward to seeing you both in the coming year.

Also, a very warm welcome to new Ladies Nat and Don, who have just exploded onto the golfing scene and took everyone by surprise by their amazing dress sense and their unique and never been seen before? colour co-ordination.

Must admit, I've never seen anyone bring their handbag onto the green but you know us girls.  If we've nowhere to put our ball markers or pitch repairer, then maybe a handbag is a thing of the future. Never know, it just might catch on...............................

10th April - Perry Cup

A great win by Branston Ladies in the first round of the Perry Cup away against Lichfield.

A fairly bright start to the day with some heavy rain just around 11am as the match started. Didnt last long though and some warm weather to see us all through to the end of each match.

A 2 - 1 lead in favour of the home team Lichfield saw both Mandy and Rita having to go back to the first and play sudden death after all square with both their games after 18 holes. A win by Mandy on the 1st saw us at 2 games each, all resting on the nail biting final match.
As Rita wearily made her way back to the first, we waited in anticpation for another hour when finally, after another 5 holes, we were elated to hear that she had finally nailed the match on the 5th.
After playing 23 holes, she was star of the team, a day we'll remember for a very long time (so will Rita/!!)
A great result, next Round, away to Aston Wood.

1st April - Spring Greensome

1st competition of the season with a friendly Greensome (stableford, full handicap)
Fine weather and a warm welcome to new member Anita who with pal Jane D played with Lady Vice Bec and myself. Some good, some not so good but a great birdy on the 9th by Anita and Jane to bag a hefty 5 points.

A great turnout with 28 Ladies playing, 3rd - Margaret and Janet, 2nd - Yvonne and Irene and 1st place to Rachel and Mandy.

Great picture waiting on the 3rd.
