Lady Captains Day - September 2012

Thanks to everyone who took part today, especially my special guests, Branston Juniors with acting Captain for today Ollie Read (front left)
With regular Junior Captain Luke Speed hard at work and unable to join in, it was a great end to the day with all the juniors finishing in style (and in the dark) around 7pm.
A few pictures below and more to follow in the next few days.

Mixed Friendly at Breadsall Priory

Finally after being rained off earlier this year, we got to play our mixed friendly at Breadsall Priory. Many thanks to Lady Vice Bec S for organising the match and to my playing partners Lady Captain Ann and last years Mr Captain Sean.

My partner was the usually stylish, reserved, quiet, unassuming, talented Mr Peter Past It of 2010, seen here with me in the September sunshine, which turned to cold, wind and rain by the time we all finished. Superb hosts and we look forward to welcoming Breadsall players back to Branston next year.

Junior Match - Sunday 16th September

I managed to catch up with some of our Juniors on Sunday 16th September after the Ladies Ernie Kay. Watch out for them on Lady Captains Day, 30th September. Currently there will be 11 Juniors playing from 2pm - 2 x 3 balls and 1 x 4 ball
(If you count Max Atkin, that will be 12 Juniors, he's out just before them at 13:52)
Come and support them on the 19th, they will be in last around 6pm and see who wins nearest the pin on the 18th.

Club Championship Weekend

So finally we get to play the Club Championship in the September sunshine. A great day to support the club and take part in a 2 day competition which recognises both gross and net winners for Ladies and Gents. This competition was due to take place in July this year but was cancelled as the course was closed for 3 weekends, following the heavy rainfall resulting in the Trent bursting its banks.
So this was the best weather that we could have hoped for, hot for some but not for others. The competition is held over 2 days, medal - not for the faint hearted. So Gents and Ladies Club Champion is the best gross score and for the first time this year, we had prizes for the best net Ladies, in 2 divisions, Division 1, handicaps 19 and below and Division 2, handicaps 20 plus.

A great day for me, seeing Lady Vice Captain Bec being crowned as Ladies Club Champion at Branston for 2012.
Well done also to Helen, best net Division 1 and to Donna, best net for Division 2.

 PLUS
a great chance for me to meet up with someone from the States who gave me my very first golf lesson around 7 years ago at Branston. She had me hitting balls off the tee with my eyes closed and it was a lovely surprise to see her again today.
Sandy, I look forward to my next lesson.......

Friday 7th September - Academy Course

Me, Coral and Rachel
Some much needed chipping practice on the 9 hole Academy course and some familiar faces out for some 'tap and chat' in the glorious September sunshine

Thursday 6th September - East Horton Golf Club

A great day at East Horton, Hampshire for the Eddie Winter Golf Classic. A shot gun start at 09:00 meant an early finish to the day. A chance to play with old friend Watty, just retired from Hampshire Fire Brigade and also to catch up on some familiar faces from the past.
A great day, great weather and over £800 raised for Alzheimers Research.

Monday 27th August - Bedford Trophy

Traditionally, this is the first mixed major to be played in the golfing season, usually April time, after Easter. Probably the most popular of formats for the 3 Mixed Majors we have, Stableford Greensome so not as much pressure as the others. This time it was third time lucky after being rained off twice before during the year. Bit of a gamble, rescheduling a mixed major on a Bank Holiday but it was a good call. With as many teams playing as when originally drawn, it was a great field and enabled some of our 5 days members to take part as well. Many thanks to our playing partners Rod and Pam G, we both came in with 36 but many congratulations to winners Steve and Sheila Cheshire with 41.

Sunday 26th August - Andy Duggan

Another popular Ladies Competition, teams of 3, Stableford with the best 2 scores to count. A warm welcome by all to the very lively Nancy Duggan who was on form during the 26th presentation of the Andy Duggan Trophy.

Well done to winners Donna, Mandy and Nat and many thanks to my usual playing partners Lady Vice Bec and Barbara.
