Presidents Day 28th July 2012
With our visitors from Glashofen, Germany, we could only pray that not only would the course be open for Presidents Day but we would have some fine, dry weather at long last.
A great day, great weather and some not so great scores but only to be expected.

Well, I got what I wished for..........
.........sunshine on Lady Captains Day 21st July........a beautiful summers day, almost too perfect
How those golfers fill every nook and cranny at the weekend, making the club house today look very empty, lonely and deserted.
Just a few familiar faces and a lovely picture on the patio, check out the shades.
Yes it really was hot and sunny.
New Date for Lady Captains Day is Sunday 30th September.
The Ernie Kay will now be played on Saturday 16th September.

Course update Thursday 19th July
POSTED ON MASTER SCOREBOARD
9 Hole Course – OPEN
18 hole Course – CLOSED
With another big down poor again last night we are just not getting a break for the surface water to go down. We are still managing to cut a lot of the course to get it ready, however it is growing so fast and there are still some areas we cannot get to, it is proving very difficult.
All competitions on the course are now cancelled over the weekend until Monday and although we are checking it every day unless we see a vast improvement with the weather we won’t be opening the 18 hole until at least Monday 23rd July.
Call the Golf Lodge for further details 01283 528320

Course Update
Lady Captains Day, scheduled for this Saturday 21st July has been cancelled due to the course conditions not being playable
9 hole still open!
Due to the heavy rain last night and the forecast this week the 18 hole is struggling to be open before the weekend.
We are obviously checking it daily and doing everything we can to get it open as soon as possible.
The Trent has receded, however we are closed due to the amount of surface water currently.
Keep your fingers crossed this week.
We are still managing to mow most of the areas of the courses that we have access to.

Sunday 8th July - GolfMark 2012
News just in regarding Branston Golf Club
Branston has just been awarded a national award recognizing the work it is doing to promote golf with juniors. The awarding of the top GolfMark category means that the club can access funding to support junior coaching both in schools and the local community. The club is also able to
GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities. It is a quality mark which provides both reassurance that the needs of children have been thoroughly considered and addressed and a safe and organised environment for young people.
The three key areas within the golf club which were assessed are:
- Coaching & Playing
- Club Environment (including sports equity & ethics)
- Child Protection & Duty of Care
The first steps towards achieving the GolfMark were taken last November when a Development Group was formed of PGA professionals and volunteers from the club. This group put together a portfolio identifying the developments that were taking place, outlining a development plan for the following year and providing proof of individuals qualifications both for coaching and working with young people. There is now a clear pathway for young people to follow from their first introduction to the game through to club and county competition teaching them social and life skills along the way.
Look out for our well coached, committed and educated juniors who will become our adult members of the future.

A shame that Charity Day had to be cancelled, but fingers crossed we'll be able to re-arrange for later in the year. We had some good things planned, lots of prizes for everyone to win plus the Hog Roast and Snake and Co in the evening.
Not all is lost though and we still have plenty of the year left, we just want some good weather now as we've had our fair share of the not so good.
So, I was all ready to cook this morning or at least bring that cake that I promised to bake for Charity Day. Here's the picture just to prove that I'd bought the goodies.
Many thanks to all the Ladies that already spent some time baking and all those willing volunteers that had offered to give up their time and help out tomorrow.
Greatly appreciated and fingers crossed we'll have a Charity Day to remember later in the year.

Welephant is a mascot / cartoon character originally used by fire brigades in the United Kingdom to promote fire safety to children.
Welephant was created by the Greater Manchester Fire Service in order to promote the dangers of fire to the local school children. Through popular demand, Welephant went National and was used by fire & rescue services throughout the United Kingdom to promote fire safety to the pupils of primary schools in their local area.[2]
In 1996 Welephant Club Inc was changed to The National Fire Safety Charity for Children. Welephant was created by the Greater Manchester Fire Service in order to promote the dangers of fire to the local school children.
Most Fire & Rescue Services now use their own individual mascots and cartoon characters to teach children about the importance of fire safety. During the late 1990s / early 2000s Welephant was gradually phased out from UK Fire Service merchandising and safety campaigns, but he continued to be used extensively as the Mascot for the National Fire Safety Charity
Since Welephant the popular BBC Cartoon Character Fireman Sam has been used by the UK Government in various fire safety campaigns aimed at young children.Other characters such as 'Frances the Firefly', 'Adam Alarm' and others have also been used.
Welephant is currently the Mascot of the Children's Burn Trust.

Sunday 1st July - Mixed Open AM AM
After a great family Wedding on Saturday 30th June and a joint 70th birthday BBQ with some close friends on Sunday 1st July, we had to give the AM AM a miss and by all accounts, a good day was had by all.
Proud Dad Brian (and me) were still partying till late into the night on Saturday and we just about managed to get through till Sunday evening but we still hoped it would be Branston couples that were celebrating victory.
And they were...well done to Rita, Gordon, Chris and Richard seen here with Lady Vice Captain Bec Smith
