Another great turnout and at last some fine weather.
Many thanks again to Monica for presenting the Trophy to the winners, Carol and Andy A.
The Deakin Trophy was first presented 32 years ago and was donated by the Deakins to encourage more couples to play in the mixed competitions at Branston. And here we are many years later with the numbers participating growing each year.

So Foursomes Stableford and with the Gents playing off the whites on odd tee's and the Ladies playing off the reds on even tee's, it was a format that was bound to produce some stories at the end of the day.
A great day with playing partner Mr Captain and our opponents, the dependable Helen H and laid back Steve W, defending their trophy from 2011 and finishing a very respectable third.
Having already played off the white tee on the 11th during the Husband and Wife several years ago, due to a stray ball making its way into the Trent, I was up for at least one tee shot off the whites. I must admit I didnt expect it to be quite as early as the 1st but it was very interesting watching Mr Captains tee shot disappearing towards the 10th tee, never to be found. Its a long way back on the first, I almost felt I was on the patio, and I think Penny managed to get a picture for me.

Other interesting facts that came to light during the match
Tweedy tee'd off on the 5th and his tee shot landed just by the bunker on the 6th.
An interesting 2nd shot for partner Jo H, but I believe that after making their way down the 6th and back onto the 5th green, they still managed a point

Terry C's tee shot on the 11th found its way to the white tee's on the 18th. We were waiting to play off the reds when both Terry and Ann appeared looking for the stray ball.
A great shot by Anne back onto the 11th fairway (where it should have been in the first place), saw them back on track.

Check out this picture, 2 people sat on the wall on the opposite side of the Trent to the 11th fairway, enjoying the sunshine, well out or reach of any stray golf balls -
or so they thought.
I believe someone hit a stray tee shot and almost knocked them off the wall. Can't say who it was so it must have been a Gent as it was the 11th and the beans were spilled by Gill S who had to take the next shot.
Guess thats you Simon S.....

Afraid not, Kim - ask Foxy!!!

Shame on me for not getting the facts correct. I always knew you were so much more reliable with your tee shots than that (I owe you a pint.....x)
